97th Mixtape Feature: J. Bizness and Trek Life

April 10, 2010 Leave a comment

This EP is the culmination of 5+ years of chemistry between the West Covina, CA MC Trek Life and up & coming producer J. Bizness from Ontario, CA. The music contained within is a combination of raw West Coast edge with classic Hip-Hop soul.

J. Bizness, in collaboration with FWMJ/Rappers I Know, also has created an EP series featuring artists over his production. The first in the series showcases Richard Wright over Bizness’ production.

First off, we welcome you all to the 3P Series. The term “3P” is a play on the term “EP” which stands for “extended play”. An EP is generally 6-8 total tracks and is usually just a sample of what is to come from a particular artist. For promotional purposes, it was decided that 3 tracks were just enough to solicit a positive response from the audience and hopefully keep them interested in future releases from the particular artists.

First and foremost, I have to thank Mr.B+C for handing this mixtape over to me and putting me on to the lesser known side of California’s music. Additionally, we have to respect the influence this mixtape holds. J. Bizness, Dam-Funk, Dibiase and more contributed to this collection of otherworldly charm. All parties involved did not hold back in making Starship 27 a memorable and alluring project.

I can’t believe how lucky I was to have stumbled upon a gem like this album by Definite. Filled with cool and collected tunes, Matters At Hand deserves to be recognized by all audiences outside of the internet. It’s crazy to hear music like this and not think it needs to be on store shelves. Matters At Hand is too good to be free and ignored.

From something that started out as a discussion about not having enough unity in music to having a mixtape out in about a month shows how much a small idea can be brought into fruition by a little dedication and hard work. After all of the scrambling and deadlines, the Cali Co-op Vol. 1 mixtape was formed and what we have here is only some of California’s finest talent in one package, mixed by DJ Gabe Real.

Rick Hughes is an incredibly talented producer from the I.E. that will soon be featured on a project called Cali Co-Op, Vol. 1, from the minds of DJ Gabe Real, Aspect 1, J. Bizness and myself. The video below and tracks after the jump are just a few examples of the beatsmith’s work.

“Go Off” is produced by J. Bizness (a Red Bull Big Tune finalist) and Danny Brown and Buff1 make their presence known by proclaiming how better they are than you. If you can’t recognize how big this song is, there is something wrong. Therefore, I must cosign this message and collaboration for you.
